FIRE

Use of sensors that are connected to fire hoses, water faucets, smoke or fire detectors, creating a network of sensors in the city for prevention and quick action in event of a situation.

The sensors are constantly monitoring and sending real time alerts in case evacuation is necessary; in addition to sending the alert to the Command Center.

This objective data plus AI-assisted analytics gives cities and their constituents more accurate in-the-moment and long-term insights.

Improved security monitoring capabilities.

The key to success is flexibility in handling alerts and logic in the parameters for the analytics engine to reach a conclusion.

EMERGENCIES

Allows emergency agencies and the emergency physician to know the initial heart rate at the time the patient collapsed versus what the rate is when EMS arrives, via the network connected to the cell phone or radio.

Sensors can automatically unlock the front door for first responders to enter quickly.

Smart traffic lights can clear streets for first responders and divert traffic.

Smart kiosks and digital signage can alert people to hazards and tell them what to do.

This is an example of how shared data and interoperable applications can benefit public safety.

CRIME

Sensors can be deployed in a variety of ways to maximize their effectiveness (they can be on the officer’s uniform, in their vehicle, on a tablet or other LTE device, on other devices, or at nearby fixed locations (e.g., a Shot Spotter light pole is an example of an external sensor mounted on a pole that would detect gunshots).

Capture of crime data for analysis and identification of significant patterns in the Command Center.

Smart light poles can be programmed to react if they identify an incident and can turn red, flash, and call the police.

Microphones can identify gunshots, triangulate the shooter’s location, and transmit it to first responders.

ACCIDENTS

Use data collected from a variety of Internet-connected devices, such as the vehicles involved, e.g., speed sensors, occupancy sensors, surrounding infrastructure (utilities, traffic lights) and victims (health monitors, activity trackers), to improve situational awareness and decision-making before arriving to the scene.

Sensors in the vehicle or on uniforms detect hazardous materials and send a report. Vehicle location data is automatically transmitted to the PSAP, providing immediate notification of the incident, advising in the event that a hazardous materials transport vehicle was involved.

Improved safety for first responders through individual sensor data.

A drone could be sent to this incident to collect data.

Smart light poles could light an accident in automatic mode.

MULTI-AGENCY COLLABORATION

This technology provides increased safety for citizens, officers and first responders. Increased situational awareness for the Communications Center and other facilities (e.g., fusion center, analysis center), which improves safety for both first responders and citizens.

It allows for better decision-making by officers and informing the public, and improves situational awareness.

A weapon detector at the entrance of buildings is available as a complementary component.

Data sharing improves collaboration between the agencies that are involved.

Heat detection through infrared imaging and motion sensors can complement traditional video data.

SEVERE WEATHER EVENTS

After a disaster, smart public safety technology can help identify which locations need water and supplies, which streets are unsafe for travel, and which buildings are structurally sound.

Citywide environmental sensors provide better situational awareness of the event route, conditions, and improve safety for responders through data sharing from other entities that possess the necessary information.

Early-warning systems allow sensors to take immediate action.

This technology not only enables data sharing, but also remote monitoring of some assets by public safety. A drone could collect weather data.

The community gets a powerful and intelligent public/private network that can be put to use in a crisis.
